KZN man handed life sentence for raping stepdaughter
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A man from Ntuzuma has begun serving a life sentence for the rape of his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
The 25-year-old was sentenced in the Ntuzuma Regional Court on Friday.
The girl was at her maternal grandmother’s house in April last year when the incident took place.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says he lied to the granny, telling her that the child's mother was sick in hospital and that he needed the child to go with him.
"In sentencing the man, the court deemed him unfit to possess a firearm. The court ruled that he was unsuitable to work with children and that his name must be included in the National Register of Sexual Offenders and the National Child Protection Register.”
Kara says while on their way home, he led her to an isolated area and raped her.
"We hope that this sentence will deter like-minded individuals. We commend the work done by the prosecution and SAPS."
