KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the 15-year-old girl was repeatedly abused.

"In August 2021, a 15-year-old female was sleeping in her room when she was awakened by her stepfather who jumped into her bed.

"Terrified and traumatised by the stepfather's behaviour, the young lady insisted that he leave her room. He overpowered and raped her while threatening her with violence."

"The accused continued raping the victim whenever her mother was not around."

She eventually told her mother and a case was opened in Ndwedwe before being transferred to the KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

"On 24 August 2021, the detective proceeded to the man's home at Ndwedwe and arrested him on four counts rape,” says Gwala.

On Monday, the KwaDukuza Regional Court slapped the man with 25 years for each of the four counts of rape.
