A KZN man has been slapped with a life sentence for rape.
Twenty-four-year-old Bongani Phindela was convicted in the Kokstad Regional Court.
Police's Thembeka Mbele says the court heard how a woman was attacked in Shayamoya last November while she was on her way home.
Three men, one known to her, attacked her.
The men grabbed and pulled her to an open field between Shayamoya and Bambayi where she was raped and stabbed to the back of her body.

The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Phindela has received a 15-year sentence for robbery.
Mbele says the matter against a second accused was not enrolled because of insufficient evidence.
The case against the third suspect is still pending.
