There is no true freedom, until women can live in a society where they do not fear rape.

That what's motivated Jan ''The Walker" Mabuyakhulu to embark on a 220km walk from Mtubatuba to Durban.

The 44-year-old arrived at Durban's City Hall this afternoon to a hero's welcome as eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo hosted a ceremony to welcome him.

Mabuyakhulu, who first embarked on the cause in 2013, says he grew frustrated after not going through a newspaper without a story about rape or violence against women and children.

"Each and every individual like men must stand up and stop all violence-based abuse against women and children. If we can do that, we will see the freedom that we fought for.

"A woman that comes across a man is not free. That's what I am communicating to the people. Maybe, one day they will realise that children are the future of this world," he said.
