KZN legislature urges youth to go and vote
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Members of the provincial legislature have teamed up with Home Affairs to motivate voters in KwaZulu-Natal.
They've embarked on a campaign in municipalities in the Illembe District to educate and encourage eligible voters to participate in the local government elections, scheduled to take place on 27 October.
Chairperson for Public Participation Phumlile Zulu says those who exercise their right to vote, play an important role in strengthening our democracy.
"We want to bring to the attention of the community that now that the elections are being gazetted, we are encouraging young people to who have just turned 16 and those who are turning 18 and those who have relocated to come and register.
"But, it must be clear the message that we want to also share is that those who have not yet registered they must register.
"It should not be as if the Legislature came with the programme yet you are unable to vote. But it is a good move to be on the voters roll."
