An official from the KZN Home Affairs Department is expected to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate's Court today on a charge of fraud.
The 30-year-old was arrested yesterday for allegedly selling a birth certificate to a Malawian national.
Police say the certificate - belonging to a South African man - was sold for R1500.

The police's Nqobile Gwala says the suspect and the Malawian national knew each other from a church. Home Affairs' provincial head, Cyril Mncwabe says they'll be opposing bail.
"We are in the process of looking into the process of suspension. We are submitting a report to our national office requesting that the official be put on immediate suspension and that the internal disciplinary process takes place," he said.
