KZN Health MEC urges youth to donate blood

Our Health Department is struggling with a shortage of blood, and they are appealing to eligible donors to give blood - especially with the holidays around the corner.
MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo says generally, it's mothers giving birth and cancer patients who require blood transfusions.
Dhlomo donated blood this morning - and says in a few weeks there will be a greater demand for stock at the province's 21 blood banks.

He's called for participation from the youth.
"We rely a lot on young people because they're healthy. We need everybody - 16 years up to 65. We rely mostly on young people, because you may be 65 - but if you have heart disease, kidney disease, you probably don't qualify. So the younger you are, the more likely you could actually assist us," he said.
