KZN Health leadership should take responsibility for crisis: SAMA
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
The South African Medical Association says it's unfortunate the health minister does not think the KZN public health sector is in crisis.
A recent SA Human Rights Commission report said the provincial health department and MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo failed cancer patients in KZN.
When Minister Aaron Motsoaledi was asked by Durban reporters last week why Dhlomo was still in charge - he said the problem was squarely at the feet of management.
SAMA chairperson, Dr. Mvuyisi Mzukwa says this response is shocking.

"We are very confused because if you have people dying then you call that a crisis. There are people who died because they couldn't get treatment from the oncology department.
"They are using HR as a scapegoat - they are just protecting their cronies, that's what they do. Dhlomo has been sitting as the political head. If you have a problem at any organisation - it's not at the base, the problem is at the head," he says.
The KZN and National health departments wouldn't comment.
