Officials say healthcare services at the Edendale Hospital were also affected by the protest action.

MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo says taxi drivers blocked access to the hospital, which meant that some patients had to be sent home.

Dhlomo says some operations also had to be cancelled, as doctors could not get to the hospital on time.

Taxi drivers protested in the capital yesterday over what they say are expensive traffic fines.

Dhlomo says community concerns cannot be solved by burning government property and disrupting services to other people.
