The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has strongly condemned the torching of a departmental vehicle during yesterday's taxi protest in Pietermaritzburg.

Officials say healthcare services at the Edendale Hospital were also affected by the protest action.
MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo says taxi drivers blocked access to the hospital, which meant that some patients had to be sent home.
Dhlomo says some operations also had to be cancelled, as doctors could not get to the hospital on time.
