KZN Health committee warns of possible measles outbreak

The Portfolio Committee on Health in KZN has urged healthcare facilities to prepare for a possible outbreak of measles in the province.
Five provinces are already battling outbreaks which have affected mostly children.
Committee chair Nomakiki Majola says she will lead the oversight inspections in KZN from on Thursday.
She says they need to make sure that hospitals and clinics have the resources they need to deal with a crisis if cases continue to rise.

"You must understand that we might have some adverse events and how do we see our health facilities being ready in avoiding a situation that could cause and adverse.
"At the same time, we are looking at the environment they are working in and the infrastructure."
Meanwhile, the Health Department ramped up its national measles vaccination campaign at the country's primary schools and creches this week.
