KZN Growth Fund to focus on rural, township-based projects

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development says it’s provided emerging businesses with more than R1,1-billion in financial support over the past five years.
Speaking at an Executive Council lekogtla - currently underway in Durban - MEC Sihle Zikalala said yesterday that during this period, the KZN Growth Fund had approved projects in the manufacturing, healthcare, transport, logistics and telecommunications sectors.
He says these projects have created almost 10 000 job opportunities.
The fund's newly appointed CEO, Aubrey Shabane says their focus going forward will be on rural and township-based projects.
"We shall keep working hard as an organisation in serving our people and making a difference - especially to those black people who were marginalised before.
As we steam ahead, more emphasis will be on projects that are rural or township based as well as we shall concentrate on projects that are women. We shall concentrate on projects that are women and youth led," Shabane said.
