KZN government looks to attract youth to maritime sector

The KwaZulu-Natal
provincial government says more than R100-million has been set aside to grow
the maritime sector and attract young people to related job opportunities.

Premier Sihle Zikalala made the comment at the launch and naming of a container ship at the Port of Durban yesterday.
Zikalala says government fully supports the Shosholoza Ocean Academy, saying it will add to the programmes its already implemented.
“We want to pledge our full commitment as the province and the country. From our side, we have already ensured that the Umfolozi TVET College becomes a focused maritime academy.”
The academy hopes to train more than 5000 young people in ship repairing and other maritime-related fields over a five-year period.
