KZN floods 'a true definition of a disaster' – Zikalala

KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala has used the Easter Friday service to highlight the plight of those who have lost their love ones in the floods that ravaged the province.

Zikalala attended the Easter passover service at the eThekwini Community Church held at the Workshop in the Durban CBD.

The premier has thanked all religious leaders who have rose to the occasion and extended a helping hand in this difficult time.

"It is not just a disaster but it is a true definition of a disaster. The literature says a disaster it is a calamities when it is explained to future generations. Those generations don't believe."

Meanwhile, following an inter-ministerial oversight visit to the province, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has given assurance of his department's intervention.

"The major issue for in the Department of Transport is that we don't deal with local roads. It is the municipality but the situation as it is in terms of the disaster will require funds allocation and divination  to ensure that we support  the municipality of eThekwini."

Small Business Development Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams also confirmed plans to assist informal businesses.

"We are beefing up our skills to managed to assist informal traders. We expect all those informal traders for example in eThekwini to go to the regional offices and submit their applications and the minimum support that we provide to those informal traders is R10 000."
