KZN farming community rallies in support of #BlackMonday

The farming community in KZN has joined the national 'Black Monday' march against farm attacks and murders in the country.

Clad in black T-shirts, hundreds of farmers and farm workers - mainly from Colenso, Bergville‚ and Estcourt - earlier moved along the R74 near Winterton before getting onto the N3 highway.

Estcourt farmer, Anthony Arde is with them and says they also want to dispel the notion the farm attacks only affect farm owners.

"The main thing is, we are chatting to the farmers when we were all on the N3 today, that we want some law and order. We need more visible policing and assistance from the police because our hands are tied. The moment something happens or as soon as anything goes wrong - it becomes racial or political. It's not, it's purely crime," he says.

The national police's Katlego Mogale says no incidents related to the protest have been reported in KZN.

"Protestors have gathered in support of the protests that is going on nationwide. They were along the R103, near Collensa and Winterton. Nationally the members of public order policing as well as visible policing has been deployed," she says.
