Melissa Thulkanam's brother says she was admitted to a rehabilitation centre in Kranskop that month, because she was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

For the purpose of effective therapy, the family was asked not to communicate with her for 21 days.

But according to Carlito Shaeik, when he called to wish his sister on her birthday on the 23rd of last month, he was told she has already been discharged.

Shaeik says they are worried about Melissa, as she probably has no medication.

They are appealing for help from the community in KwaDukuza, where she was last spotted.

Her brother sent out an appeal.

"Melissa. Nizam, myself and your sister are all looking for you. We love you, and we just want you to come home, and we want to find you."

"We just pray that you are fine and nothing has happened to you, so just please contact us or get to the nearest police station," he said.

Police are investigating a missing person's case.
