KZN experiencing alarming rise in Covid-19 infections – Phaahla

KwaZulu Natal is among the provinces that have shown a 100% increase in new Covid-19 cases over the past few days.

Health Minister, Joe Phaahla's added that the figure which has been driven by the Omicron variant - is steadily climbing.
Over 24 500 infections were registered, countrywide, in the last 24-hour cycle:
“In the last 7 days, the new cases have increased by an average of 37%. With Eastern Cape, Free State, KZN, Western Cape and Northern Cape have been showing a 100% increase in daily new cases compared to 7 days earlier,” Phaahla said on Friday.
“This confirms a rapid increase nationwide.”

During a virtual briefing this morning, Phaahla said we're officially in the fourth wave. He says hospital admissions are worrying:
"At the end of the third wave we were at rock bottom in terms of hospital admissions now this is rising rapidly over the last 7 days we have seen a 70% rise in admission. Although, in absolute numbers, it's in high percentage because we come from a low base."
