KZN Education sticks to 80% matric pass rate

KZN Education has its eyes fixed on a pass rate of over 80% for the class of 2020 and says there's no need to lower the target.

Grades 12 start writing their final exams from the 5th of next month.
There'd been concerns from unions that interruptions to the academic year, due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown might affect matrics' performance and results.
The province's pass rate climbed to 81% last year, from 76% in 2018. KZN Education's Muzi Mahlambi says they're confident in the class of 2020.

"Based on the June and September results we are very much confident that we will still make it. We will not want to revise the target at this point in time but we are saying that we soldier on.
We are happy in the manner in which our learners have responded to our educators in terms of attendance and the programmes we have been rolling out."
