KZN Education speaks out against Nongoma school hair row

The KZN Education Department has come out strongly against a school principal from Nongoma - who allegedly forced pupils of the Shembe Nazareth Church to cut their hair.
The comment follows outcries from some parents whose children attend Layikona Primary School.

The department's Kwazi Mthethwa says school policies cannot amount to discrimination on religious and cultural grounds.
"It is against the Constitution of this country to deny any learner access to education. We'll be in contact with the district to ensure the affected learners are back in class and they are learning," he says.
