KZN Education puts to rest claims of textbook shortage
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The KZN Education Department says it will be ready to begin teaching on the first day of the new academic calendar.
HOD, Enoch Nzama has been responding to allegations by some teachers’ unions that some schools have still not received textbooks for the 2018 academic year.
"Teachers are going to be available on the first day. We were also able to provide learner support material in the form of textbooks and stationery to all schools. We also provided workbooks and other resources in the form of furniture and infrastructure. We were able to supply those schools with whatever they were in need of," he says.

Nzama says they are working on resolving some issues.
"We do have schools that have not yet been supplied with text books. The reason being the fact that principals made requests not to be supplied with books at the end of last year. They were afraid that they might end up being stolen. So, as a result, we have made arrangements with service providers to make sure that those books are delivered to schools," he says.
The first bell for the new school year rings on Wednesday.
