KZN Education granted interdict against Wentworth SGB
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The KZN Education Department has been granted an interdict by the Durban High Court - against the School Governing Body of Assagai Primary School in Wentworth.

For over a month, parents have been blocking access to the school as they are upset about the appointment of the school's new principal.
They say the deputy principal - who's been at the school for several years - has been overlooked and is their preferred choice for the position as she is more qualified.
The department's Kwazi Mthethwa says the interdict will ensure learners are not disadvantaged further.
"We have always said that these people protesting outside the Assagai school don't have the interests of learners at heart. They are just running their own campaigns and own agendas. They do not have the agenda of teaching and learning," he says.

Speaking on behalf of the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the School Governing Body, attorney Barren Philips says they weren't opposed to the interim interdict as schooling already resumed last week Monday.
"The factual position is that teaching, schooling is taking place and access controlled measures to ensure the safety, and security of learners, teachers and property is in place for authorised access only," he says.
