KZN Education disputes claim concerning treatment of 'surplus' teachers
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Teachers Union, NATU, says it's in the process of obtaining an interdict against the KZN Education Department - to stop surplus teachers from being re-allocated.
It claims the correct procedures aren't being followed.
Allen Thompson says they've received numerous complaints from teachers who've been declared 'surplus' by the department.
He says after a teacher is declared surplus and moved, the department is supposed to ask the teacher if they have any objections. Thompson says this isn't being adhered to.
KZN Education has disputed this - saying the union is aware of the process to help deal with the affected teachers.
Spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they've been meeting with NATU to discuss the issue.
"All educators that are receiving letters to be moved have never complained except when they are moved unprocedurally and we always attend to those individual problems. It can't be a blanket kind of issue to then say there is a problem with this process," he said.
