KZN Education Dept applauds Transnet for bursaries
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department has applauded Transnet for the billions it's set aside for 171 bursaries for grade 12's who want to get into the fields of engineering and accounting.
Transnet spokesperson Mboniso Sigonyela says applications are open until June.
He says the bursaries to the total of R1.2 billion in the scarce fields are also open to those who have already completed matric with good maths and science results.
''We cover all your costs and allowance, we buy books. We organise you a computer, accommodation, everything that you as a tertiary student would be worried about - we cover that,'' he said.
Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says June exam results are critical as pupils can use these in their applications.
''Some of the companies are not going to wait for the end of the year results but they can start inviting them for interviews and for internships,'' he said.
