There were reports circulating this week that deliveries weren't being made to schools.

Education MEC Mbali Frazer says officials have been deployed to engage with the affected districts and stakeholders to get to the bottom of the issue.

"I was disturbed when I learned that there were logistical challenges on the part of the main service provider. This unfortunate situation currently faced by our schools, communities and service providers, is deeply regretted.

"The department and stakeholders are working around the clock to resolve this challenge."

The DA in KZN says it received reports that thousands of learners in the province went hungry this week.

"We have raised this issue with the HOD yesterday with no response from him," says spokesperson Imraan Keeka.

"What is also worrying is that despite all the big talk about this feeding scheme, and the need to add an additional meal in this new financial year as we stand today, what we are seeing is that food actually been rationed in school where food is being available, yet other schools where nothing is available. This for some children is the only meal of the day."
