KZN Edu seeks way forward in tombstone debacle

KZN Education's been meeting with its lawyers to discuss the best way forward in a land ownership issue - that's put the brakes on teaching and learning at a south coast school.
The Umzimkhulus say Mthwane Senior Secondary was built on a burial plot owned by their family. Pupils have since been moved - after a tombstone was laid inside a classroom there earlier this month.
The department's Kwazi Mthethwa says they've also been speaking to the family.

"This is purely a legal matter and I wouldn't want to get into details but what I can say is that the person who is accusing the department of buliding a school on his land," he said.
He added, "He does not have anything to prove it. But it is a legal matter and I wouldn't want to get into the details. We just want to see learning taking place at the school."
