KZN economy back on its feet: Dube-Ncube

KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says despite challenges brought by the floods, the COVID-19 pandemic and the July 2021 unrest, the provincial government is determined to soldier on.

State insurer SASRIA spent over R20 billion rebuilding shopping malls and businesses affected by the social unrest.

More than R2 billion has been spent on rebuilding infrastructure that was damaged by the floods.

Giving her State of the Province Address at the Oval Cricket Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday, the premier said the government has since implemented a package of recovery programs to revive the economy.

“Having almost been brought to its knees by the floods, the civil unrest, and global economic challenges, today our economy is back on its feet, gradually addressing the damage which is estimated to be in the region of R33 billion.”
