The NCOPs's Select Committee on Appropriations and Finance are in the province to assess a number of government projects targeted at communities.

Other facilities visited by the committee include the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, The Dube Trade Port as well as the Jozini Water Supply Project.

Jozini is one of the areas hardest hit by the current drought. The council's Charl de Beer. spoke to Newswatch at Dube Trade Port.

"It's a major development. Billions and billions of rands to take water to the townships where there's no water, and what the people are doing is they're connecting at this stage 3000 people with water. That is part of the rural development programme to give them water. It's got good soil, it's got sunshine and he wants to work. Can he have a vegetable garden? Food security," he said.
