KZN cop in court on corruption charges
Updated | By News24
A KwaZulu-Natal policewoman has appeared at the Greytown Magistrate's Court on charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice, the Hawks in KZN said.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Simphiwe Mhlongo said constable Xolisile Mokoena, 33, an investigating officer at the Greytown SAPS, appeared in court yesterday and the matter was postponed to Tuesday for a formal bail application.
Mhlongo said Mokoena arrested three women in August last year for fraud and possession of suspected stolen properties.
The women were found in possession of 70 South Africa Social Security Agency cards but their case was mysteriously withdrawn.
Mhlongo said Mokoena allegedly took the cards from the station's storeroom where they were kept as evidence and wanted to hand them back to the suspects provided they gave her R5 000.
