KZN company director in court for fraud

A director at local company Aqua Transport and Plant Hire has been charged with fraud and corruption.

Hawks officials say Vasuthevan Naicker and his co-accused Stephen Cahi, an engineer, lined up in a Pietermaritzburg court on Thursday.
Spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says the pair was arrested in connection with a plant hire deal with KZN Transport.

He says the company was awarded a contract to supply equipment for a project to upgrade a road in Nongoma between 2010 and 2013.
Mhlongo says Cahi's alleged to have defrauded the department of more than R1.5 million by inflating the plant hire hours.
"They were arrested yesterday and they briefly arrested appeared Pietermaritzburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on charges of fraud and corruption. They were released on bail."
