KZN child rapist sentenced to life behind bars

A north coast man that was caught by a mother raping her teenage daughter has been sentenced to life in prison.

The 50-year-old tenant was convicted and sentenced in the Empangeni Regional Court last week for the 2018 incident that took place in Ngwelezane.


Police say the 14-year-old girl was washing her school uniform when she was called by the man to his room.


The suspect had rented a room at the teenager's home.


Spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says the mother walked in on the suspect allegedly raping her daughter after hearing screams.

"After that that the matter was reported to Empangeni and the docket was taken by Empangeni family violence, child protection and sexual offences and the victim alleges that she was grabbed by the suspect who pulled her to his room, overpowered and then he raped her," said Mbele. 


The accused appeared in court way he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
