KZN cannibalism: Neighbours believe suspects lured with promise of money

Some of the community members in Estcourt believe the men arrested for alleged cannibalism were lured with the promise of money.

Five people - including a traditional healer - are in custody and face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. 


Police discovered human remains at one of the suspect's house after one of the men apparently went to confess at a local police station.

The small hut with its single red door cut an eery figure on the rural landscape, neighbours are busy with their daily routines with most refusing to talk about what they know or what's happening there. 


One person who did speak to Newswatch says there were always people in the house believing the occupants were dealing in drugs. 


The windows have been blocked with dark paper making it impossible to see inside. 


KZN police said on the weekend that it is still unclear how many people have fallen victim to this syndicate, they have appealed to families with missing loved ones to come forward.
