"The pupils were involved in a physical altercation and one of the pupils allegedly fetched a knife and stabbed two 15-year-old victims to death.

"Local police were informed of the incident and arrested a 12-year-old pupil. A knife that was covered in blood was seized by police," Major Thulani Zwane said.

Provincial education spokesperson Sicelo Khuzwayo has confirmed the incident.

"The information we received was that two learners had a quarrel with the suspect who then went to fetch a knife. He then allegedly stabbed to death the two learners," he said.

Zwane says that in an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old pupil from Hlamvana High School in Esikhaleni was stabbed to death by a known suspect on Monday after they had an argument.

"The police are confident that the suspect will be arrested soon," he said.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni has condemned the recent violence at schools in the province.

"Pupils are once again urged not to bring dangerous weapons to schools and disrupt learning because of unrelated conflicts that may exist. Those who fail to adhere with the school safety rules will be dealt with accordingly," she said.
