KZN authorities on full alert ahead of New Year's weekend celebrations

If you're going to be out and about on New Year's Eve - here's an overview of what you can expect on the roads.

KZN police say a number of road closures will take effect in and around the city - as Durban prepares for an influx of visitors ahead of New Year's celebrations.

To avoid congestion, only those with vehicle entry permits - including residents and hotel guests - will be allowed into beaches.   



SAPS spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says they're anticipating a lot of social gatherings as people usher in 2017.

"We are just warning the people - the holidaymakers, those who will be going out there - to be very extra cautious, and to enjoy responsibly. We know that others - when they consume alcohol - they get aggressive, they get into a fight. People who are fighting, the police are going to arrest you," she said.


An estimated 300 000 people visited Durban's beaches over the Christmas long weekend - with that number set to increase over the New Year's weekend.
