Allegations of rape, other sexual abuse and financial misconduct have been made against the KwaSizabantu Mission near Kranskop.

Some congregants allege it's a cult.

The claims have surfaced following an investigation by News24.

The Social Development Department's Mhlabunzima Memela says they'll be probing the allegations.

"We've been told that there's about six victims that have decided to come out and tell their story and explain what has happened to them but as a department of Social Development, moving from here, we are trying to trace those victims so that they will be given psychosocial support,” Memela said.

Memela says church leaders have given them a hard time when they tried to intervene.

"Our social workers have tried before to get in there after there has been a number of complaints. They indicated that they were chased out and were unable to enter in the gate because they are always informed that it is a private property, and no one can easily get into it even when they try to make appointments,” Memela added.

Police Minister, Bheki Cele has confirmed that an investigation into the allegations is underway.
