KZN ANC wants govt to pay CPF, street groups in crime battle

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says the government should be paying volunteers who are on Community Policing Forums, and in street groups, who work daily to protect their communities.

The party says the stipends must come from provincial departments allocated a budget of R10 million each for crime-fighting initiatives.

 

The plan was announced by the KZN premier last month during her budget vote address for the 2023/24 financial year.

 

ANC provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo addressed the media in Durban on Wednesday.

Mtolo said crime remains a serious challenge.

 

"Collectively, we must deal decisively with the culture of impunity enjoyed by criminals. Criminals who are terrorising communities must have no space in our communities. Regular raids and police visibility in areas with high levels of crime will be intensified.

 

“The PEC has mandated the local government to work with traditional leaders to uproot some crimes as a result of traditional cultures and rituals conducted by murderers."
