KZN ANC member faces unlicensed firearm charges
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The ANC in KZN has confirmed the arrest of one of its members in the Umzimkhulu Municipality.
A senior member from the Harry Gwala District faces charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The party's Mdumiseni Ntuli says he was arrested yesterday.
"He was found in the possession of an unlicensed firearm. We will still determine whether or not the firearm is indeed unlicensed. The investigation will determine the situation in relation to that firearm," he says.
The police's Jay Naicker says the arrest follows the deployment of additional officers to Umzimkhulu in the wake of deadly attacks there.
"While police officers were conducting their duties - they stopped a vehicle and conducted a search. They found a 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition," he says.
