KZN ANC leadership announcement expected soon

Results of the top five leadership of the ANC in KZN are expected to be announced as early as today.

It is day two of the party’s provincial conference at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg  where over 1 000 delegates have gathered for the election of leadership in the province. Sihle Zikalala and Senzo Mchunu are going head to head over Provincial Chairmanship, a position currently held by Mchunu.

Unity was a key theme raised in both the speeches of Mchunu and ANC National Chairperson Baleka Mbete. Mchunu said elective conferences seem to bring about destructive tendencies which divide the organisation.

" While conferences and elections are normal and acceptable characteristics of the ANC, there are seemingly those within our ranks whom activities around the conferences are a matter of life and death. For whom conferences are the only defining periods within their existence within the ANC" , he said.

"Certainly it can neither be correct nor healthy for our movement that there are comrades whose activism only spikes in conference related activities yet they are conspicuous by their absence during the day-to-day implementations of the movement's programmes" , Mchunu said.
