KZN ANC to finalise candidate list today
The ANC's Provincial Executive Committee through extended meetings with alliance partners expects to finalise its candidate list today before taking it to the party's national list conference this weekend.
The ruling party's provincial spokesperson, Mdumiseni Ntuli says there will be more consultations before the selection is made.
"The decision in the ANC on whether or not mayoral candidates are going to be announced, we hope to be receiving guidance emerging from this weekend after the National Executive Committee. Our thoughts have been that we deploy comrades.
"Once we have won elections, we then determine who becomes mayor, deputy mayor and speaker," he said.
Durban-based political analyst, Thabani Khumalo says it's always been the strategy of the ANC to announce its candidates after the elections:
"The ANC knows that it is divided in branch levels. It knows that by announcing its candidates long before the elections that will create more division. So, it has been a good strategy for them," he said.
