KZN allocated R3.4-billion for water infrastructure
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Billions are being pumped into municipal infrastructure in KZN in efforts to tackle the drought.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube made the announcement during the department’s budget vote speech at the Provincial Legislature in Pietermaritzburg today.
While ensuring compliance with cost cutting measures, the department says municipal infrastructure, such as water, electricity and sanitation remains a priority.
Treasury's set aside a R3.4-billion municipal infrastructure grant to improve service delivery on water, sanitation and infrastructure in the province's 54 municipalities.
Dube-Ncube says speeding up the provision of water infrastructure, including new and refurbished boreholes and water storage facilities is key in drought-hit KZN.
