KwaMashu residents expect a long wait before violence ends

Residents of KwaMashu, north of Durban believe they'll have to wait a while before violence plaguing the area comes to an end.

Community members yesterday aired their grievances during a visit by the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster.
Police Minister Nathi Nhleko and his Justice counterpart Michael Masutha conducted a walkabout through the township's troubled hostel in A-Section yesterday.
Four people were gunned down there on Sunday.

Siyabonga Ndlovu, who lives in G-Section, claims police are often in cahoots with criminals.
"It's well known that police work with criminals, they bribe them and then the few people that are trying to help root out crime have a hard time.
"You can't be on the lookout for criminals and police as well. Us who are trying to protect the community are fighting a battle we cannot win," he said.
Masutha says they're aware of the allegations.
"The only way we can make our justice system credible and work for our people is to be credible, honest and loyal," he said.
