KwaMashu hostel shooting suspect in court

A suspect thought to be linked to a deadly shootout in the KZN Midlands more than two weeks ago is due to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court this morning.
He was arrested at the weekend.
The man survived another shootout with police on Saturday night at the KwaMashu Hostel in which another suspect was shot dead.
KZN police say they received information about unlicensed firearms at the hostel with members of the Durban Flying Squad, the K9 Unit and the Inanda Police Cluster Task Team responding.
Spokesperson Thulani Zwane says when they approached the group of suspects, one of them fired shots at the officers, who returned fire killing him.
''The second suspect was arrested and was found in possession of a 9mm pistol. The deceased was also found in possession of a 9mm pistol. The other suspects were also searched but nothing was found and they are not linked to any other crimes,'' he said.
Zwane says the two may be linked to the gang that allegedly robbed a Newcastle business recently.
Six of them were shot dead in a shootout on the R33 in Seven Oaks following a high-speed chase.
Some of the suspects managed to flee with one of the getaway cars later found abandoned in Pinetown.
