KwaMashu group blocks hospital gates, demand jobs

The Department of Health in KZN has condemned the blocking of hospital
gates by a group claiming to be representatives of community members in
KwaMashu.

An angry crowd gathered outside the Pixley Ka-Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, and forced a trucker to offload rubble in front of the premises.
They are demanding jobs at the hospital.
The group claims the majority of hospital employees are being brought in from outside KwaMashu, Inanda, Ntuzuma, and Phoenix.
KZN Heath spokesperson Mdu Ncalane says the department heads are dealing with the issues they've raised, and have been meeting with representatives.

"The administration acknowledges that unemployment is rife and affects the entire country including the people of Inanda, Ntuzuma and Kwamashu where the new hospital is situated.
"The department has nevertheless, on several occasions on various media platforms, communicated the recruitment processes that were followed on filling the posts at that facility. We received more than 5000 applications, whereas it has just under 1000 available vacancies.
"The department further explained that it has
finalised all necessary processes and steps to fill all vacancies."
