KwaDukuza electricity losses top R260m
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
KwaDukuza Municipality says it lost R262 million's worth of electricity over the past financial year.
It says it's R25 million more compared to the previous period of 2021/22.
The municipality says it loses about a quarter of the power it purchases from Eskom - much higher than the national average loss of between 8% and 12%.
KwaDukuza's Sifiso Zulu says, ironically, some of the contributors to the loss are affluent neighbourhoods.
"Mainly, it would be illegal connections where you will find that meters have been bypassed by consumers.
"Then they will be tampered meter. You will be surprised that the tampering of meters is also found to be prevalent with large power users, business people, and people in affluent areas; they also consume without paying."
