Krejcir visitor arrested after hidden phone rings

A woman who was visiting Radovan Krejcir in prison was arrested at the weekend after a cellphone that was hidden in a shoe began ringing, according to a report.

The 45-year-old estate agent had gone to Zonderwater Prison to visit the Czech fugitive to discuss the sale of his Bedfordview property, reported The Star newspaper.

She alleged that she had been given food and Krejcir’s old running shoes and inside the sole of one of the shoes, a Samsung cellphone had been hidden, police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said.

The phone apparently rang and it was found that Krejcir’s son Denis was calling from Poland.

Just days earlier, a cellphone was found hidden inside the handle of his kettle while cellphone batteries were found underneath an electric frying pan, Makgale told the Sunday Times. Another cellphone was found inside Krejcir’s underwear.

A helicopter was also spotted flying above the prison and when the police’s National Intervention Unit was called, the helicopter flew away.

In September, the Department of Correctional Services said it foiled a massive escape plan by inmates, including Krejcir.

Amongst the items found in Krejcir’s cell during that incident were a pistol, ammunition, a knife, an item that looked like a Taser, a pepper spray gun, screwdriver steel blades, 10 cellphones, a memory stick and a diary which contained the names of witnesses and investigators in his cases.

Last month, the first conviction against Krejcir was obtained when he was found guilty of attempted murder, kidnapping and dealing in drugs, related to the kidnapping and torture of Bheki Lukhele, whose brother, Doctor, had allegedly disappeared with 25kg of tik.

Doctor worked at a cargo company at OR Tambo International Airport.
