Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini is urging teachers and communities to come together in an effort to stop school violence.

King Zwelithini had been speaking at the launch of the KwaZulu-Natal Education Department's winter schools program. He said schools must groom pupils to become players on the international stage.

The King also noted issues facing public schools, such as overcrowding which he said can lead to demoralised staff and pupils.
King Zwelithini also said he is concerned by the level of violence on school grounds.
"We know that there are attacks among pupils that take place on school premises. Sometimes these are caused by issues that begin back at home in local communities but get finished at schools", he said.
"However, no pupil has reason enough, when faced with hardship at school, to take their father's gun into the classroom", King Zwelithini said.
"I wish we work together to combat this problem", he said.
