Kaunda: Vandalism to blame for sewerage spillages on Durban beaches
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says vandalism at 33 wastewater pump stations is to blame for the sewerage spillages in some of the city’s beaches.

In recent months, there have been several instances where wastewater was seen flowing into rivers and the ocean.
Speaking in oThongathi on Wednesday, Kaunda said teams are on sites doing repairs.
"The south of Durban, we are finalising repairs of our two pump stations which are affecting Amanzimtoti Beach. The contractors are currently on site, and we are planning to complete this work in the next few weeks.
“Work has also commenced in the north of Durban to repair Umhlanga sewer pump station which is responsible for the contamination of Umhlanga Beach.
“While the pumps are being prepared, work has also commenced to replace sewer lines along Umhlanga River, which were washed away by the floods."
