Kaunda says infrastructure repairs underway
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Several projects to repair infrastructure damaged by last year's April floods and the tornado in June are off the ground, according to the eThekwini Municipality.
The city says work is underway after the National Treasury approved of the rollover of the Municipal Disaster Grant worth R1.5 billion last week.
The floods inflicted significant structural damage and disrupted essential infrastructure throughout the city.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda conducted an oversight visit at a construction site in KwaMashu's C section on Thursday.

"For instance, where we are, we will be building a water canal which will channel water straight to the Umhlatuzana River.
"It will require R12 million we have already invested. Such an investment in the area and this project will take up to June next year - the maximum. But we anticipate we may even complete it before June next year.
Local employment will also be affected, 20 local people have been employed, and local contractors have been given the opportunity to participate."
