Kaunda says councillors accused of corruption will retain positions, for now

eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda says the four councillors who were arrested on corruption charges this week won't be removed from their positions just yet.
Kaunda dismissed rumours that the group have been fired or suspended.
The four councillors and three contractors were implicated in the R208 million DSW tender scandal involving former mayor Zandile Gumede.
Eight other eThekwini municipal employees were arrested in Springfield and charged with fraud.
According to the Hawks, they allegedly generated false weight bridge receipts that were used by four main service providers to claim from the municipality.
They were taken into custody on Wednesday and appeared in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court.
The Hawks says their arrest brings to 22 the number of people implicated so far.
Kaunda says the four councillors will continue to attend council meetings unless instructed otherwise by the courts.
Kaunda says the law should be allowed to take its course.
"The law is very clear if there are allegations against you; there are processes that your organisation will have to follow. Those are the processes that will be leaving with the ANC to decide, but for this council meeting, councillors will be present. They are still councillors that have not been suspended or not being fired," he said.
