Kaunda: Death of Joburg mayor ‘a great loss’

As tributes continue to pour in for Johannesburg's newly appointed Johannesburg Mayor Jolidee Matongo, his eThekwini counterpart says Matongo’s death is a great loss to the nation.
Mxolisi Kaunda's conveyed his condolences to the 46-year-old's family, saying that he and Matongo had planned to meet to discuss ideas to enhance service delivery.

Matongo was on his way home from a voter registration drive in Soweto, alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa, when he was involved in a car crash.

Matongo was elected Johanneburg's mayor in August, after Geoff Makhubo, who contracted Covid-19, passed away in July.
