Kaunda 'dealing' with misconduct claims against officials

eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says he is dealing with allegations of misconduct against two high-ranking city officials.

The DA in KZN says municipal manager Musa Mbhele is alleged to have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement that changed the terms of a tender contract without council approval. 


The party says disciplinary processes made recommendations that haven't been implemented. 


Kaunda says he is aware of these negative reports.

"I have taken steps as the city manager's immediate supervisor to verify the existence of the CIIU reports, that formed the basis of the negative media reports. 


"I am finalising this report for it to be tabled at the next council meeting which will be convened by the Speaker to deal to deal with the outstanding matters." 


Kaunda was speaking during his post-budget briefing on Thursday.


He says an independent investigator's been appointed to probe allegations of misconduct against deputy city manager, Kim Makhathini.

They'll examine claims of fraudulent documentation linked to her qualifications. 


"The appointed investigator will be expected to submit, within 30 days of his or her appointment, a report with recommendations to the city manager.


"The city manager shall table the report of the independent investigator before the council within seven days from the date of receipt thereof for a decision to be made on the following by the council."
