Kaunda: 22 out of 23 beaches reopened

eThekwini Municipality has assured bathers that the city's beaches are safe.

A number of beaches, especially those south of Durban, were closed to the public for months after elevated levels of E.coli were detected.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda recently inspected sewer pump stations along the southern coastline after leaks contaminated beaches when the floods hit.

They are being repaired.
The municipality's Gugu Sisilana says at an executive councillor meeting on Tuesday, the mayor announced that 22 out of 23 beaches have been reopened.
"The latest results from these tests indicate no poor water quality on coastal waters.
"To promote transparency and confidence in municipal procedures, the city has extended an invitation to water and wastewater treatment specialist Talbot to carry out concurrent sampling so that the beach water quality results are verified."
